At work we were looking at a new anti-virus so I decided to test them out at home. BitDefender was rated highly and had a Mac anti-virus so I decided to test it out. After 1 week it had messed up my hard drive, causing applications that once worked fine to lock up (applications like XCode, iTunes, iPhoto, Firefox). Well, I know IT so I contact their support by email. One week, no reponse, so I contacted them again. One more week, no response, so I restored to factory conditions without BitDefender and everything was fine and dandy.
I then wondered if I should give it another shot. After a day of thinking about it, I decided no and they had a 30-day money back guarantee so I emailed them to ask for a refund. I get a response 1 day after the 30-days that I contacted the wrong company. This email went to the company that sold the product, not BitDefender themselves. Note that I bought it from BitDefender’s website but Avangate was the seller. Avangate emailed me back exactly 31 days after I purchased the software and said I needed to contact BitDefender. Their website doesn’t have anything on the front page about refunds. A Google search found the semi-hidden page to contact them. One week, no response, so I’m letting everyone know to stay away. The software may work for you, but if it doesn’t work, you are on your own. Forget the refund, the company never responds.
Now at work, the salesperson from BitDefender was always available. Maybe they need less salespeople and more support people. Either way, STAY AWAY from them. Consider my lost $50 as a lesson to everyone.
